They change up their strategy and eventually win the game. While playing chess, they realize that they’re actually playing against another person. Oh good it’s chess this time instead of a virus. The link goes to a chess game that at first appears to be a computer game. Sora and Shiro are suddenly given a private e-mail with an interesting question: “Have you two felt that you’ve been born in the wrong world?”Ĭurious, they click the link. Pwning n00bs online is less fun when it comes at the expense of no sleep for five days straight. As cool as their gaming accolades sound, their day-to-day life isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. They pair together online as the user “_“ (blank), and with the winnings of gaming tournaments they are able to barely scrape by in life. They are Gamer Shut-ins, or “Hikikomori” who simply live their lives dominating various MMO gaming tournaments. No Game No Life centers on siblings Sora and Shiro. Today I want to put the spotlight on a raunchy I sekai series called No Game No Life. Alice in Wonderland and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court are popular Western examples of this genre. Literally translating to “Different world,” this genre describes how a group of people are in one world, and then suddenly end up in another world. One of the most interesting genres I’ve come to love from Japanese media is “I sekai” (pronounced “ee say kye”).
